Jan. 13, 2023 Newport, OR – I walked into the gym in Newport anticipating an exciting game between the hosting Cubs and the visiting Estacada Rangers. Both teams had similar records. Newport entered the game 6-5 overall and Estacada entered with a 5-5 overall record.
I was not disappointed.
I have not seen the Rangers play this year but have seen the Cubs a couple of times. Newport has definitely improved. They seemed more focused and played in a more cohesive manner than in previous games I attended.
Both played as expected for teams with the above mentioned records and at the end of the first quarter the Cubs were up by one over the Rangers, 15-14.
In the second quarter the teams continued to battle and at the end of the first half Estacada took a one point lead over Newport, 24-23.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that I saw both teams getting tired. There were more mistakes made and there was less game awareness by the players. This would lead to a 51-51 tie at the end of regulation play.
Overtime was as exciting as the first half of the game. However, it would be Newport pulling out the 56-55 win over Estacada.
PHOTOS! soon.
